Visualisation is the transformation of data into an image of some description. The intention behind using visualisation techniques is that by presenting the data in a visual manner, the powers of human visual perception can be exploited, the ease of interpretation of data is increased and they allow complex information to be conveyed, even to non-specialists. When used in design, visualisation enables products to be viewed very early on in the design cycle, thus enabling input from a range of sources (customers, manufacturers and test engineers) that could normally only be consulted later in the process. Recently developed visualisation techniques are using leading edge technologies to provide powerful insights into a number of areas.
